If you love history, come join us at 6:30 pm at the Old South Meeting House, a great historical place in Boston, to talk about Boston’s first subway! From the Meeting House Website: Doug Most shares his favorite details and stories about the building of the first two subways in America, from his new book, “The Race Underground: Boston, New York, and the Incredible Rivalry That Built America’s First Subway.” It is a “meticulously researched history,” says The Economist and Kirkus Reviews called it “An almost flawlessly conducted tour back to a time when major American cities dreamed big.” Doug Most will talk about the characters behind these incredible projects, including two brothers from one of America’s most famous families, the man who put beautiful pianos into living rooms around the world, and the engineer whose firm built New York’s subway and went on to build Boston’s famous Big Dig. He will bring photographs from his book, “The Race Underground,” and help you appreciate the marvel of underground subway travel. Doug is a deputy managing editor at The Boston Globe and the former editor of the Globe Sunday Magazine. He lives in Needham.
